Azerbaijan, The Jewel of Expo 2015

The Jewel of Expo 2015 is the Azerbaijan’s pavilion. Three floors and 1800 square meters of extension to narrate a country, which for ages had been considered as a geographic and symbolic crossroad between Orient and West. The theme of the pavilion is “Azerbaijan treasure of biodiversity”. It has been created and realized by Simmetrico, a network of Italian creative professionals and project managers of multimedia technologies. Surprisingly the whole investment amounted of only 15 millions of euros. Azerbaijan is a land of great naturalistic wealth, being one of the 25 hot spot of biodiversity in the world, with 9 of the 11 climatic areas globally existing.

The Azerbaijan’s natural wealth suggested to develop the idea of the biosphere as symbol of the country. As a matter of fact the biosphere symbolizes a system composed of different elements which guarantee life, development and growth. Therefore the path of the pavilion works up through three glass biospheres realized with double curvature technology, which guarantees transparency and flexibility. The mounted spheres are the metaphor of an open country, while the reproduction of a pomegranate tree- symbol of the nation- represents the Azeri wealth and variety. The echo sustainability is assured through the use of low consumer material, which is also recyclable, like the wood of the two facades represented as symbol of dynamism. The pavilion extends itself on three floors. The ground floor is dedicated to the Azeri natural and cultural patrimony. Bright and colorful flowerbeds delve the visitors into the Azeri variegated landscapes. The second floor is dedicated to food and traditional savor, while on the third floor there is the restaurant built on a huge terrace.

Inside the pavilion the Mugam – the Azeri traditional music recognized as patrimony of Unesco- spreads out all around the pavilion. Azerbaijan has been represented as a land with a solid bond with innovation and its strong tradition. The pavilion narrates the country through its colors, its savors and the most representative images of Azeri cultural and naturalistic wealth. The Jewel of Expo 2015 has been realized in order to be disassembled and rebuilt in Baku, the capital of Azerbaijan,  after Expo 2015. It will keep shining as a symbol of innovation for Azerbaijan and  a reason of pride for the Italian creative talent.
